Jallikattu

Jallikattu is a traditional bull-taming sport celebrated mainly during the Pongal festival season in Tamil Nadu. In Dindigul District, the event is organized in several villages and attracts large crowds of participants and spectators. Specially trained bulls are released into an arena, where participants attempt to hold onto the bull’s hump for a short distance or period. Jallikattu is closely connected with Tamil rural culture, agriculture, bravery, and community traditions, and it remains an important part of the region’s cultural heritage.
