The Dindigul Dragons made a strong start to their TNPL 2026 campaign by defeating defending champions iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans by seven wickets in the tournament opener at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul on August 4, 2026. Tiruppur were bowled out for 107 in 15.4 overs, after which Dindigul reached 111 for 3 in 18.3 overs to complete a comfortable victory. Tiruppur began aggressively, with Amith Sathvik scoring 20 from just six balls, but their top and middle order quickly collapsed. Tushar Raheja made only four, captain Sai Kishore scored four, and Pradosh Ranjan Paul contributed seven. The defending champions briefly attempted to rebuild through S Mohamed Ali and Uthirasamy Sasidev, but Dindigul’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings. The standout performer was TNPL debutant Nirankar Sharma, who produced an impressive spell of 3 wickets for 21 runs. He dismissed Sasidev, S Ganesh and V Anovankar and was later named Player of the Match. P. Bhuvaneswaran was equally important, taking 3 for 32, while Sandeep Warrier and Sakthi Karuppasamy also contributed wickets as Tiruppur were dismissed well before completing their 20 overs. Dindigul’s run chase was measured rather than explosive. They lost Shivam Singh for 10 and RK Jayant for 7, but Anuraag Rajesh anchored the innings with 34, while Vimal Khumar added 33. Their partnership steadied the chase on a two-paced surface and ensured Dindigul remained comfortably ahead of the required rate. The Dragons eventually reached the target with nine balls remaining, finishing on 111 for 3. The seven-wicket victory gave them two points and an encouraging opening to the season, especially because it came against the reigning 2025 champions. The result was also notable given the recent history between the teams. Tiruppur had defeated Dindigul twice in the 2025 season, including a commanding 118-run victory in the final, so Dindigul’s opening-day success in 2026 represented a strong response to those previous defeats.
